What You'll Need Before Ordering

Ordering glasses online is straightforward once you have your prescription. Your PD (pupillary distance) is also needed - it may be on your prescription, or you can measure it while ordering with us on the prescription screen.

Your Eyeglass Prescription

You need an unexpired eyeglass prescription from a licensed eye doctor. It includes SPH, CYL, AXIS, and ADD (for progressives). Contact lens prescriptions are not the same - don't use one for glasses.

Your PD (Pupillary Distance)

PD is the distance in mm between the centers of your pupils. It ensures your lenses are centered perfectly in the frame. Your doctor may include it on your prescription - if not, you can measure it at home in 2 minutes.

Your Frame Size

Shade Gray offers Narrow, Medium, Wide, and Extrawide frames. Measure your face width or check the numbers on your current glasses to know which size to filter by.

Browse Shade Gray's collection and filter by size (Narrow, Medium, Wide, Extrawide), shape (square, rectangle, round), or style. Every frame page shows the exact measurements in millimeters so you know what you're getting.

Choose Your Lenses

After selecting a frame, choose your lens type and any upgrades:

Single Vision
For nearsighted or farsighted correction. The most common lens type.
Progressive
No-line bifocal. Corrects distance, intermediate, and near vision in one lens.
Blue-Light Filtering
Reduces eye strain from screens. Can be added to single vision or progressive lenses.
Photochromic
Lenses that darken in sunlight and clear indoors - no need for a separate pair of sunglasses.

Enter or Upload Your Prescription

On the prescription screen, type your values for each eye exactly as written - including the + or - sign on SPH and CYL. You can also upload a photo of your written prescription if you prefer.

Do I need a prescription to order glasses from Shade Gray? +
Yes. You need a valid, unexpired prescription from a licensed eye doctor to order prescription lenses. Frames without lenses can be ordered without a prescription if you prefer to have lenses fitted locally.
How do I submit my prescription to Shade Gray? +
During checkout, type your prescription values directly into the order form (SPH, CYL, AXIS, ADD, PD) or upload a clear photo of your written prescription. Our team reviews every prescription before processing your lenses.
What if I don't know my PD? +

Can I use FSA or HSA funds at Shade Gray? +

How long does it take to receive my glasses? +

Shade Gray offers free returns and exchanges. If your lenses are incorrect or the frames aren't right, contact the team and they'll work to make it right. This includes prescription errors - your prescription is reviewed before lenses are made to minimize mistakes.
Can I order glasses for progressive (bifocal) lenses? +
