Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using FSA/HSA at Shade Gray.

Are prescription eyeglasses FSA and HSA eligible? +
Yes. Prescription eyeglasses -frames and lenses together -are fully eligible under IRS Publication 502. Since every Shade Gray order includes both a frame and prescription lenses, every purchase qualifies.
Does Shade Gray accept FSA and HSA cards directly? +
Yes. We accept FSA and HSA debit cards (Visa/Mastercard) at checkout just like a regular credit card. If your card is declined for any reason, pay out of pocket and submit your itemized receipt to your plan administrator for reimbursement.
Do I need a valid prescription? +
Yes. A valid prescription from a licensed eye care provider is required both for Shade Gray to fill your lenses and for the purchase to qualify for FSA/HSA reimbursement. Your prescription is good for 1-2 years depending on your state.
When do my FSA funds expire? +
FSA funds typically expire on December 31. Some employers offer a grace period through March 15 of the following year, or allow up to $660 to roll over. Check with your HR department or plan administrator. HSA funds never expire and roll over indefinitely.
Can I use FSA/HSA for lens upgrades like progressives or anti-glare? +
Generally yes. Progressive lenses, anti-reflective coating, and photochromic lenses added to a prescription order are considered medically necessary vision aids and are FSA/HSA eligible. Purely cosmetic upgrades (like non-prescription tinted lenses) may not qualify. Confirm with your plan if unsure.

Can I use my FSA/HSA along with a coupon or discount? +
You can apply a discount code at checkout to lower your total, then pay the remaining balance with your FSA/HSA card. You can only claim the amount you actually paid -not the pre-discount total -for reimbursement purposes.
